AVALANCHE 1 COURSE
Avalanche Level One Course
This is a 24-hour class with at least 60% field time. We typically schedule our courses Thursday and Friday evenings from 6p-9p and all day Saturday and Sunday. This year we are offering the classroom sessions on Thursday and Friday via Zoom virtually. Students can expect to learn the following:
How to interpret the avalanche forecast and learn how to develop an appropriate travel plan based on current conditions.
How to travel in the backcountry while observing key red-flag signs while being able to identify avalanche-prone terrain.
How to use appropriate snowpack tests.
Understanding of where and why avalanches occur.
Risk management tools for identifying problems associated with human factors.
How to confidently conduct a companion rescue.
***Participants should have the ability to ski or ride safely and in control through a variety of snow conditions, on a moderately pitched slope. They also should be comfortable hiking uphill all day at a steady pace.***
